Mathematics and its applications play a fundamental role in any area of human activity, from purely scientific enterprises to the financial and business world. Our mission is to conduct and disseminate research, provide outstanding instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels in all areas of mathematics, and engage with the broader scientific community and public at large.

Graduate Degrees

Our Graduate Program prepares students to pursue successful careers as professional mathematicians. Students in the program are rigorously trained for a wide range of career directions which include academia, industry, government labs and the financial sector. Program requirements are based upon the premise that graduate students should have a broad exposure to graduate level mathematics combined with hands-on experience, either through research activities conducted within the department or through coordinated experiences with other departments and other partners in industry, government labs and national research institutes. The overall principle in the program is to foster independent and creative work combined with the highest degree of scholarship and academic standards.

The Center for Approximation and Mathematical Data Analytics focuses on the mathematical core of data science. Its members conduct research into a variety of topics, including approximation theory, compressive sensing, learning theory, numerical analysis, optimal recovery and signal/image processing, as well as targeted application areas.
