Department of Anthropology Undergraduate Research Awards
The Department of Anthropology will award multiple $750 (up to $1000 for international travel) research and travel awards to undergraduate majors in the department annually. These awards are intended to support individual research projects in anthropology, conference presentations, and/or to support student participation in a TAMU-sponsored archaeological field school or study abroad course. Students who will be working on individual research projects will receive Directed Studies credit (ANTH 485) and students who will be participating in a field school will be registered for field school course (ANTH 330 or the equivalent at another university).
There are two application deadlines for this award:
Fall, 2022 – Mon, 10/24 – The first round of awards is primarily intended for students who will be working on research projects during the academic year, and for those enrolling in study abroad courses.
TBA – Spring, 2022 – The second round of awards is primarily intended for students who will be attending field schools during the summer.

Undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Anthropology are invited to apply for the Student Research Prize competition.

Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be currently enrolled students in the Department of Anthropology. Undergraduates must be anthropology majors.
- Students in both categories must be registered to present their research as a poster during Student Research Week.
- The deadline for Student Research Week registration is usually in February.
- For more information, visit the Student Research Week website. Students are also encouraged to present their work at the Departmental Anthropology Conference, which is usually held in early April.
- Students must be willing to have their work displayed in the Department of Anthropology for up to one year after receiving the award, beginning in the Fall semester of the subsequent year. Students are encouraged to include additional materials in the display cabinet (photos, brochures, artifacts).
Prizes
- Prizes will be presented in two categories: Undergraduate and Graduate.
- One undergraduate student winner and one graduate student winner will receive:
- Cash Prize – $250
- Certificate of Achievement
- The honor of having their poster displayed in one of the display cabinets on the 2nd floor of the Department of Anthropology throughout the subsequent academic year. (Students may temporarily remove the poster if they are scheduled to present at another conference.)

Selection Process
- A small committee of faculty members in the Department of Anthropology will select the winners of the competition. Faculty judges will evaluate the quality of the research and the quality of the presentation.

Honors and Undergraduate Research administers the university nomination processes for national fellowship and scholarship programs. Students interested in applying for National Scholarships and Fellowships should work closely with Honors Advisors and faculty to develop a long-term strategy for personal, professional, and academic development.
