Congratulations to our recent alumni who have won NSF Graduate Fellowships!: Bryan Felix (2015), Caitlin Lienkaemper (2015), Sarah Reitzes (2015), Zev Woodstock (2015), Aaron Chen (2016), Kayla S. Cummings (2016), Lucy Yang (2016), Travis Dillon (2019), Caleb Robelle (2019), Sydney Timmerman (2019), and Andrew Lin (2020). And congratulations to Travis Dillon (2019), who has won the 2022 AMS-MAA-SIAM Morgan Prize for Outstanding Research in Mathematics by an Undergraduate Student.
The Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M will host an eight-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) from June 5 to July 28 in the summer of 2023. We will have programs in Algebraic Methods in Computational Biology, Algorithmic Algebraic Geometry, Number Theory, and Probability and Algebra. We will have up to 3 student participants for each program. We especially encourage women, members of under-represented groups, first-generation college students, and veterans to apply. Support for the program has been provided by the National Science Foundation through an REU grant.
• Algebraic Methods in Computational Biology
• Algorithmic Algebraic Geometry
• Number Theory
• Probability and Algebra
Applicants should be highly motivated undergraduates who are comfortable with calculus, basic matrix manipulations, and elementary linear algebra. No special prior experience with mathematical software or computers is required. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and must not have received their bachelors degree before the start of the summer program.
Participating students will be provided free on-campus housing, along with an anticipated stipend of $4400 for the 8-week program, plus subsidized travel to and from College Station.
