Sociology at Texas A&M University
Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior. It studies the larger forces outside the individual that affect people’s personal experience and lives. It also studies those larger forces themselves, such as families, organizations, social classes, ethnic groups, nations and the world system.
The Sociology Program provides its majors with the opportunity to focus their education toward a particular area. It is our hope students tailor their degrees to their own goals and interests so they are better prepared for careers and graduate/professional programs after completing their Bachelor’s degrees. The pursuit of a major area of focus will not cause you to take any additional coursework beyond the 120 hours required to graduate. Areas of focus include:
