Melanie L. Shelnutt and Hurlie H. Collier ’79 of Arden, North Carolina, have established an endowed scholarship to support undergraduate studies, with preference given to Aggies majoring in journalism, history or psychology.
Collier earned his Bachelor of Science in psychology from Texas A&M and then continued his education with a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center.
He enjoyed a lengthy career in law, eventually serving as partner of BakerHostetler LLP, which is one of the largest corporate law firms in the United States. Collier, whose practice focused on employee rights, employment and general practice, retired from the firm’s Houston office in 2019.
Collier also is active in The Association of Former Students (AFS) and served as the Western Carolina Club president from 2019 to 2021 and has regularly donated to AFS.
